to be legal yes you have to have a business license or contractors license. Plus you might want to get liability insurance. Just in case something happens you have coverage. If you do electrical work on a house and you are not licensed and it burns down you are in serious trouble! Of course you would be introuble anyways if you were licensed but at least that way you are covered and have liability for any losses. Always better to be sure your butt is covered.
